Manipur, the Jewel of India as coined by Late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru is a land inhabited by two main groups of people, The Meitei’s and the Tribal people. While the Meiteis live in the valley, the hills are mainly occupied by the Tribals. Out of the total population of more than 23 lakhs the population of the tribal exceeds 8 lakhs including 33 recognized and unrecognized tribes of Manipur.
