מדינת ישראל מתמודדת כבר למעלה מ- 60 שנה עם בעיית מוקשים. בשנת 2011 החליטה ממשלת ישראל לפנות את כל שדות המוקשים אשר אינם חיוניים לביטחון המדינה. במסגרת החוק הוקמה הרשות לפינוי מוקשים שתפקידה לנקות את שדות המוקשים אלו ולשחררם לשימוש אזרחי.
