希望之光是由网友们基于对农村教育问题的关注，缘于“行胜于言”的共同的理念，自发形成和义务参与的民间性、公益性、开放式的农村贫困学生助学网站。本着冷静低调、谨慎务实的精神，希望之光致力于帮助中西部偏远地区农村贫困学生完成小学、初中、高中学业。希望之光负责收集贫困学生资料，经义工实地调查核实后在网站公开发布认捐。网友认捐后每学期直接把助学款寄给孩子，希望之光通过电话和实地复查等多种渠道对正在资助的个案跟踪直到个案结束。
